So if is meant for procreation only, isn't the christian thing to do?

You can have as long as you are married. It's one of the benefits of having a mate for life. Procreation was at the beginning of time, as we know it and since the earth is full I would imagine that babies are not a necessity but may still be. Especially since that is all that is talked about on here.
