Why do some get offended?

it seems some people are actually offended when i question the existence of god or jesus or any other religious figure, be it mohammed, buddha, or whoever. what is wrong with questioning the validity of any of these so called "gods"? certainly, if i went around proclaiming that i found a rock which i believed was god, wouldn't you question me?
