I got these two questions wrong! The first question is.....?

if a man flew (in an airplane, of course) 82 hours, then how many days did it take? I thought it was 49, but I got it wrong. The answer choices were: A. 30, B. 40, C. 50, or D. 70. Can someone please explain to me? Oh and here's another one: The next question is, Back in 1911, air travel wasn't too long on refinements. Is that A. an understatement, B. an overstatement, C. a metaphor, or D. a simile. I choose D, simile but I was wrong. I am only in middle school and I have a lot of trouble understanding things.
